Warm weather, sun shining, and spring break mean one thing- bikini season is almost here! While some of us are ready, many of us still have those extra few pounds to lose from the pound packing holiday season.
If that’s the case for you, here are some tips to get you into tip top shape before summer arrives.
SET A GOAL-
Whether it’s to fit into a smaller size, look good in a swimsuit, gain muscle or just feel better, setting a goal is very important and is the first step in tackling any fitness program.
Make your goal realistic. Don’t expect to lose 30 pounds before summer rolls around. About one or two pounds per week is healthy weight loss. If you want to keep the weight off it’s better to take it slow and make changes that are sustainable for the long-term.
Now that you’ve decided on a goal, you’re probably wondering how to accomplish it.
One issue I see people struggle with is the INTENSITY of their workouts.
COMMIT TO THE WORKOUT-
When you are ready to get your workout in, you need to commit to it. Be present in the moment, think about what you are doing.Don’t just go through the motions, rather focus on the mind/muscle connection and always keep your goal in mind. Continually thinking about your goal will help you to work hard and put forth the effort necessary to change your body.
You want the changes you make to be long-term. Any exercise routine will work- as long as you are consistent with it. So choose a form of exercise you’re not going to get burned out on. Find something that works with your lifestyle and is sustainable.
What you eat matters- A LOT! You CANNOT outwork a bad diet! So no matter how much you work out if your diet isn’t right you aren’t going to see great results. Eat a variety of whole, clean foods to nourish your body and balance protein, carbs and healthy fats. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of water per day. This will help your body burn fat among many other benefits.
As a mom of five young children, I know it can be difficult to make time to successfully incorporate a fitness and nutrition routine into your life. But once you become consistent in your new lifestyle you’ll feel better and look better than ever before!
Stay tuned for next month’s issue where I will take you through some of my summer workouts to get you into swimsuit shape!
